Online Casino Regulations Across Asia

🇲🇾 Malaysia

Malaysia forbids internet‑based casino activities under its national gaming statutes. Operators within the country may not host or provide gambling titles online. Patrons who connect to offshore venues assume full responsibility. Authorities concentrate on filtering unauthorised portals and penalising homegrown facilitators.

🇮🇩 Indonesia

Every form of wagering falls outside the law in Indonesia. The Criminal Code explicitly outlaws virtual casino services. Jakarta routinely blocks overseas gaming servers. Breach of this ban can incur fines or custodial sentences.

🇹🇭 Thailand

Since 1935 Thailand’s principal gambling statute has outlawed almost all betting. Online casino titles sit firmly in the forbidden category. Regulators enforce digital blackouts and may pursue legal action against anyone who organises or uses illicit platforms.

🇵🇭 Philippines

The Philippines allows only PAGCOR‑sanctioned offshore operators to offer real‑money gaming online. These entities cater exclusively to overseas clients. Resident gamblers may not place stakes on these sites and unlicensed platforms remain unlawful.

🇨🇳 China (Mainland)

Mainland China permits solely government lotteries. Any private casino‑style gaming on the web is proscribed. Attempting to bypass rules via VPN or foreign servers can result in hefty fines or detention.

🇹🇼 Taiwan

Taiwan maintains a blanket prohibition on casino gaming except for state lotteries. Though special casino districts were authorised years ago none have materialised. Underground web‑based operations face police crackdowns.

🇯🇵 Japan

Japanese law bars internet slots and table games. The Criminal Code upholds this ban even as land‑based integrated resorts enter a pilot stage. Digital casino‑style wagering remains off limits.

🇻🇳 Vietnam

Vietnam’s legal framework excludes citizens from all casino‑type gambling. Only foreign visitors may enter licensed land‑based venues. Any web‑based casino activity by locals is a criminal offence.

🇮🇳 India

Under the Public Gambling Act 1867 most real‑money gaming is prohibited. A handful of states permit skill‑based contests. True casino sites remain effectively outlawed for residents.

🇸🇬 Singapore

The Remote Gambling Act 2014 blocks unlicensed internet wagering. Only authorised operators—Singapore Pools among them—may offer lottery or sports bets. Offshore casino platforms are inaccessible and using them invites penalties.

🇰🇷 South Korea

Online casino games fall under the Criminal Act prohibition. Korean nationals may only gamble at one domestic integrated casino or via state lotteries. Foreigners gain access to select land‑based venues but never to web‑based ones.

🇰🇭 Cambodia

Cambodian law bans citizen gambling since 1996. Licensed brick‑and‑mortar casinos serve only overseas guests. All online casino operations are illegal for Khmer nationals.

🇲🇲 Myanmar

With no legal online‑gaming framework in place all virtual wagering is forbidden by default. Border‑area resorts cater to foreigners while unlicensed web rings operate largely unchecked.

🇱🇦 Laos

Laos disallows casino formats and internet gambling for locals. Special Economic Zones host foreign‑only gaming halls. Any domestic access to online titles remains unlawful.

🇧🇳 Brunei

Brunei’s Sharia‑based regulations outlaw all gambling. No licences are issued for virtual casino services. Enforcement is stringent and breaches carry severe consequences.

🇳🇵 Nepal

Nepal recognises only a handful of land‑based casinos in the Kathmandu Valley. Internet‑based betting carries no legal status and is therefore prohibited.

🇵🇰 Pakistan

The Prevention of Gambling Act 1977 and provincial edicts outlaw every form of betting, including online. Offenders face fines or imprisonment.

Key Insight: Across South and Southeast Asia internet casino gaming is broadly banned. Only a few jurisdictions permit state‑run lotteries or foreign‑facing operations. Real‑money web‑based casinos remain illegal or subject to tight control throughout the region.
